Richie Barker has talked of his amazement at the attitude of some fans who still feel the need to criticise the team despite our start this campaign.

Crawley have won four of opening nine in the league, and we sit in 8th place with 15 points. There’s a certain parity with our start to last year, but we haven’t suffered the disappointment of a couple of huge defeats, and we haven’t lost as many as well if I’m counting correctly.

That said, Barker admitted to the Sheffield Telegraph that some of the comments he was receiving from fans left his dismayed.

The manager pointed to what particular occasion where a female fan walked up to him in a gym recently and complained that the game against Shrewsbury Town was boring, and of course we didn’t lose the game but in Richie mind.

‘We’ve scored in every game we’ve played this season and must be one of the most entertaining teams in the division, but it’s still not enough for some people. You get the feeling you’re banging your head against a brick wall sometimes.’

Crawley are also the only team to beat high flying Peterborough United so far this season and we did it quite comprehensively, and Barker joked that if the players performed like that week in week out, not only would he be utterly delighted, he’d also not expect them to be at Crawley for very long when the next window opened.

In a rather sobering comment for some, realistic for others, he added.

‘People are looking for Utopia but they won’t find it at Crawley Town in League One I’m afraid.’

The aim for Barker is constant growth and striving to improve year on year so maybe we can consider a bit of Utopia at the club, but at this stage we aren’t there yet and that’s not a slight on the players who put the effort in every game.

Everything in good time, football is about entertainment yes, but thesedays sadly it’s also far more about the results.
