Ahead of the opening to the new League 2 season Sonny Bradley was confirmed as Mark Yates new captain for Crawley this season, with the squad numbers of course revealed too!

Bradley, signed from Portsmouth last year, captained the Reds in pre-season several times and seemed a likely option for Yates to go with and this was confirmed ahead of the Oxford opener on Saturday on the Official Website.

Having been given this chance in pre-season the defender made it clear he wanted to do this going forward, in fact he said he would ‘bit Yates’ arm off’ to become his captain! Fortunately he didn’t have to do this with him saying he’s honoured by this awarding of it to him as he looks to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Josh Simpson before him.

‘When the gaffer pulled me over I was a little bit surprised but I thought I might have a chance after doing it in the friendlies.

‘I’m absolutely thrilled to have this honour and I hope I do it and the club proud. I have played under some good captains even though I’m relatively young still, including Josh Simpson last season. I know he was a bit of a legend at the club and hopefully I can have as good a career here as him and be captain for a very long time.’

Also ahead of the new season the squad numbers were announced on the Official Website.

At the time Yates said.

‘We are still looking to sign a left-back and something might happen before Saturday but I’m happy with the squad as it is.

‘We have had a very positive pre-season, the new players have integrated well into the group and all we are focused on now is Saturday’s game at Oxford United.’

Izale McLeod isn’t expected to have a future with Crawley however he’s still been issued a squad number for now.
