Crawley’s League 2 season continued, and got fully up and running, with a win against Cambridge at the Abbey on Saturday

A first win for Crawley was impressive enough but to do this with a three-nil win, no less, against Cambridge made this extra impressive by the Reds!

A brace, either side of half time, from Deacon (39 & 47) had Crawley two-up with the former Arsenal man getting his first goals for the Reds. Donnelly was sent off for a second booking to leave Crawley with 10-men however Edwards (87) was still able to add a late third to make sure.

The other results this weekend were as follows:-

Bristol R 3 – 1 Barnet
Cambridge Utd 0 – 3 Crawley
Carlisle 1 – 1 AFC W’don
Exeter 0 – 0 York City
Mansfield 1 – 1 Oxford Utd
Newport 2 – 3 Leyton Or
Northamptn 0 – 2 Plymouth
Notts Co 1 – 1 Accrington
Portsmth 3 – 3 Morecambe
Stevenage 2 – 0 Hartlepool
Wycombe 1 – 1 Dag + Red
Yeovil 3 – 2 Luton

Looking at these results the stand out ones have to be the wins, Crawley aside, for Stevenage and Yeovil, all winning for the first time this season!

It was also an impressive scalp for Teddy Sheringham’s Stevenage with the former England striker getting his first win in management by guiding Boro to a two-nil win at Broadhall Way against a Hartlepool side that previously had a 100% record in league and cup.

Was the result of the League 2 weekend Yeovil’s three-two win against Luton? Quite possible so! The Hatters haven’t found the going easy so far this season but not only did Yeovil win for a first time this season the Glovers came back from two-goals down to secure this three-two win at Huish Park!

Crawley are back in action this weekend with a League 2 game against Wycombe at Adams Park.
