Crawley’s passage into the second round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy was secured on Tuesday night.

League 2 new boys Cambridge United came to Broadfield looking to cause an upset but we, as we ended a run of defeats that stood at four, ran out 2-0 winners.

We came under early pressure as Jayden Stockley, handed his full debut after a weekend brace, headed wide a Greg Taylor cross to give us a warning.

Also making his full debut for us was Matt Harrold and he went close on the half hour, but the game was goalless at the break.

The post had denied Gavin Tomlin before his low driven cross into the box ended up in the back of the Cambridge net for an own goal off Richard Tait (54).

Lewis Young shot narrowly wide before substitute Charles Banya (77) wrapped up a two-nil win late on when he converted from a lay onto him from Izale McLeod, who had also come on at that point.
