A new captain looks likely to be another of the things Mark Yates does at Crawley ahead of the new season, not that he says he knows who this will be at the moment.

We’ve certainly been through the captains in the past 12-18-months haven’t we!

Josh Simpson was John Gregory’s captain when the League 1 season got underway a little over a year ago but when he was transfer-listed in November he lost this to Joe Walsh until he moved to MK Dons at which point, ironically enough after Walsh signed for his former club, Izale McLeod to this on under Dean Saunders.

Sonny Bradley was captain against Fulham on Saturday but Yates has told the Crawley News he’s still undecided on who this will be come the start of the League 2 season.

Yates said he’s got three or four candidates, admitting that Bradley is a serious candidate.

‘There are probably three or four candidates.

‘We will see how people adapt over pre-season but he (Bradley) is obviously one of the ones I’m thinking of.’

Does McLeod losing the captaincy, at this stage; mean he’ll be leaving Broadfield? Yates insists that it doesn’t, adding.

‘He will score goals and that’s what we want.

‘We have a goal-scorer in our midst and they are hard to find sometimes. At the moment nothing has changed.’

Bradley for the captain’s role? It’s looking possible.
