Pre-season ended with Crawley suffering a defeat at Non-League side Whitehawk, having taken the lead at the Enclosed Ground.

The Hawks recovered from that setback to inflict a two-one win on Yates’ side to see the Reds going into the new League 2 season off the back of some mixed results this summer, this defeat shouldn’t leave people worrying too much but it’ll be a disappointment.

Crawley started well and didn’t take long to make the breakthrough, with Edwards heading home with recent signing, former Arsenal striker Deacon, missing a chance to double this lead.

Arnold combined with Robinson who fed it onto Mills who beat Newcastle loanee ‘keeper Woodman to make it one-one with tempers raising before the half time break with Bradley picking up a yellow card for the Reds, which saw several get involved after his initial foul.

Shortly into the second half Robinson was again the provider with the Hawks benefiting from an injured player keeping him onside with Deering applying the finish.

With last season’s top goalscorer McLeod continuing to be linked, and likely to leave Broadfield before the start of the season at the weekend, he wasn’t involved.
