And not for the first time!

Mark Yates had looked to sign Robbie Willmott in the summer but Crawley missed out on him when he signed for Ebbsfleet United, a loan deal from the Non-League side is something Yates thought was ‘done and dusted’ but the Reds have missed out on the winger again….

The Official Website has confirmed a proposed deal to sign former Cambridge, Luton and Newport man Willmott from Ebbsfleet has fallen though.

So confident were Crawley this was ‘a done deal’ it was announced in the programme for the weekend meeting with Bristol Rovers, which has already been printed, however Yates today confirmed in his pre-match press conference that ‘red tape’, Football League regulations, prevented this deal and left him frustrated in his efforts.

Willmott’s has, of course, previously worked with Crawley assistant Jimmy Dack during his time at Newport.

This statement on the issue was also released.

‘Crawley Town can confirm that due to the restriction in the Football League regulations relating to loan transfers, we were unable to complete the emergency loan signing of Ebbsfleet United winger Robbie Willmott.

‘Mark Yates was hopeful of being able to complete the signing on Thursday, hence why he refers to it in his programme notes, which went to print earlier today in readiness for Saturday`s game against Bristol Rovers.

‘We’d like to place on record our appreciation to Ebbsfleet United for their understanding after the emergency loan signing could not proceed as originally hoped.’

Back to the drawing board then as Crawley look to make some final moves into the transfer market ahead of the emergency loan window closing next week….that’s assuming these Football League regulations aren’t going to prevent any movement?
