Mark Yates hasn’t been able to sign a striker(s) he’s wanted this summer due to a lack of funds available to him. But with it having seemed an inevitability since relegation last season anyway Izale McLeod is set to move on in order to raise some funds to sign Lee Barnard and Roarie Deacon.

It’s doesn’t look as though fellow trialist, former Brighton and Swindon striker, George Barker will be signing regardless?

Former MK Dons and Portsmouth striker McLeod’s been linked with Barnsley and Coventry, he’s missing the Reading friendly to discuss a move but it should mean ex-Arsenal man Deacon and Barnard, released by Southend at the end of the season but formerly with Spurs and Southampton, can be brought in.

McLeod’s exit is a blow without a doubt, but with only a year on his contract and the 21-goal striker last time round unwilling to drop into League 2, there wasn’t much Yates could do.

The Crawley manager would’ve privately been expecting this you sense anyway with the Argus reporting he’ll sit out Championship side Reading’s visit to Broadfield tonight as he talks to an interest side(s) about a return to League 1.

Another with previous connections to Portsmouth, who released him this summer, is Joe Devera with the Crawley News informing us that the 28-year-old is now bidding to earn a contract with Bromley after deciding against an extended trial with the Reds earlier this month.
