Having had Roarie Deacon and Lee Barnard on trial since the start of pre season training, manager Mark Yates confirmed that they had both penned one year deals with Crawley ahead of the victory over Reading.

Deacon comes to us following his release from Stevenage over the summer and Barnard from Southend who won promotion via the Play Offs last term and both have been pretty impressive in their efforts in training and whilst on the pitch in games so far.

Speaking to the Official Site with both players now secured for the 2015-16 campaign, Yates explained.

‘We are delighted to have Lee and Roarie on board. Lee has got a good goalscoring record at a higher level than League 2 and I have been very impressed with him in pre-season. Roarie excites me because of his pace and ability. He`s got a good pedigree and is desperate to do well. They will give us good options in the forward positions. They’ve shown the desire to be here, they’ve persevered and have been rewarded.’

Yates went on to say that he wasn’t 100% sure we’d actually be able to do deals for both players but having spoken to the board he’s delighted that the budget has been squeezed to accommodate them both and our competition for the coming year increases now in the forward positions.

‘I know I haven’t signed my full-backs. But with keepers and full-backs to come, I believe we’ll have a strong and competitive squad come the first game at Oxford on August 8.’

All about the wheeling and dealing at this stage of the year before looking potentially into loans and more short term strengthening.
