Crawley enjoyed league cup success on Tuesday night against championship opposition.

Ipswich came to Broadfield on Tuesday with the higher league opposition sent packing with Crawley winning 1-0 after extra time.

We started well with Izale McLeod going close, before Frank Nouble had a couple of chances for Ipswich, firstly finishing poorly after being put in by a long ball from Luke Chambers and then off target from Anthony Wordsworth’s pinpoint cross.

Further half chances came for both sides before the break but the half ended goalless.

It was almost third time lucky for Nouble within minutes of the restart but his best finish to date ended with veteran ‘keeper Brian Jensen saving well. With Paul Taylor, also close in the first half, curling one narrowly wide and another saved by our ‘keeper.

This visitors looked the more likely winners in 90-minutes with Jensen having to save again from a Balint Bajner effort with a last minute 30-yard effort from Teddy Bishop beating everyone apart from the crossbar so the game went to extra time after ending nil-nil.

With a penalty shootout looming large McLeod’s (111) strike, his second in as many games for his new club, proved to be the winner with 9-minutes to play as the Red Devils celebrated a one-nil win and a place in the second round draw that takes place tonight.
