John Gregory knows that you can’t afford to be ‘a nice guy’ when it comes to being a football manager, and in particular taking players on trial.

During pre-season he has fielded almost enough players to make a squad with no fewer than 15 turning out for Crawley but he knows he hasn’t got to be ‘a nice guy in these situations’ when it comes to deciding who stays and goes.

Collins John could have the edge over some other trialists, with Gregory telling the Crawley News that the benefit he could bring is ‘experience’, which some of the other trialists haven’t been able to.

Of major concern is John’s fitness, which is seriously lacking and he had also had some major injury issues over the year so I’ll stand by my earlier thoughts this week that I can’t see him being signed on, but Gregory knows best!
