Paul Jones has made a somewhat surprising return to Crawley with the experienced ‘keeper brought in on a 28-day loan, returning to the club he left back in the summer of 2014 having made 105 appearances for the Reds previously when the first-choice at the Broadfield Stadium.

The departure of Darryl Flahavan recently, who as it happened had been training with Portsmouth before signing for Crawley, left Mark Yates looking for another option with Jones coming in on loan for the next month.

During his time at Fratton Park, which might not be over, the 29-year-old has made 45 appearances with Yates telling the Official Website he’s been impressed by Callum Preston but always wanted to bring in another experienced option with Jones fitting the bill.

‘We’re delighted to have Paul with us and I’d like to thank Paul Cook for allowing us to take him on loan. Young Callum Preston has made great strides this season but we need to have two good keepers at the club and Paul brings massive experience and he is a big presence in the penalty area. And of course he knows the club, even if I doubt if there is anyone who is still here from the playing side from when he was here, which definitely helps.’
