Crawley were meant to go to Maidstone United for a pre-season friendly on Saturday but this game has been cancelled.

With another friendly against Reading 48-hours later the trip to the Gallagher is off with our would have been hosts’ chief executive Bill Williams telling the Official Maidstone Website we’ve pulled out over injury concerns.

‘It’s disappointing that Crawley are unable to fulfil the fixture on Saturday.

‘As a new club to the Gallagher Stadium, it was a match many were looking forward to and it would have been an ideal test for our squad ahead of the league season.

‘We wish them well for the new season and hope they may be in a position to join us for a game next summer.’

Trialists Roarie Deacon and Lee Barnard would have hoped to feature in this one, as they did Fulham on Saturday.

Winger Deacon was released by Stevenage at the end of last season whereas the experienced former Southampton and Southend striker Barnard, a free agent having left Southend at the end of his contract, also go on.

Both will hope to feature against Brighton on Wednesday.
