In quotes carried by the Crawley Observer Saunders explained that he knew it was a massive win for us, and keeping a clean sheet for the first time since his opening game in charge is obviously huge.

‘It was against a really good team. I don`t think they will be in the bottom-four at the end of the season. It was a big win for us and also caused them a bit of damage. That sort of result for them can damage their morale as well so they will find it hard to lift themselves but they have some really good players and it is a great result again.’

Saunders goes on the call the players magnificent for their work over the last week.

‘Nine points in a week – the players have done magnificently. I kept the same team so the same players have done it, apart from Brian Jensen who came on to play his part. But we are not out of trouble yet. On we go with Gillingham and we have got to do it again.’

Moving on to the clean sheet, Saunders went on to say.

‘We`ve got a clean sheet today and all our defenders defended really well against an attack which is as good as anything in the league. Budgetwise their centre forward (Chris Dagnall) is on more than our whole team put together! In the second half we played got behind the ball and couldn`t get through us. We`ve got a chance for us of getting out of it completely so we are not scrambling at the end of the season.’

The Crawley News have him additionally quoted as saying.

‘I know we are out of the bottom four but I don`t look at the table, I`m just aiming for 50 points. That`s 43 and with all the fixtures, and teams playing against each other, normally they are all taking points off each other so you would like to think that 50 points would be enough. And that`s three wins for us.’

The gaffer goes on to say what it does mean though is we have that bit of a buffer and hopefully it won’t go down to the final two games now, and with the pressure off, hopefully performances will improve further from us – which in turn should help results as well.
