Dan Butler, who was released by Portsmouth this summer, has claimed interest from Crawley but decided to make the move to Non-League side Torquay instead.

The Crawley News has carried quotes from what he told the Torquay Herald Express that claimed Mark Yates had shown an interest.

Yates might have wanted him at Broadfield but Butler’s said Torquay manager Paul Cox made him ‘feel really wanted,’ which is something the 20-year-old Butler says he wanted in any move with Torquay feeling right.

‘I wanted to sign where I was really wanted, and the gaffer made me feel that way. He asked me to sign, and I wasn’t going to turn it down.

‘Torquay is a Football League club that’s in the Conference right now.

‘You look around the place, the stadium and the training ground, and you can tell what it’s all about.’

I’m not sure if we should be concerned, with all due respect to Torquay, that we’ve been turned down in favour of the Gulls?
