Last night’s late postponement of the game against Tranmere Rovers has again left Crawley looking a little bit unfortunate in the wider footballing world.

There are already a few articles and indications on line that we aren’t winning any friends so far in 2014 with the number of games that we are having called off later in the day, especially when the club have released statements talking about their confidence in getting particular games on, but the decision rests with the referee – we can’t call them off ourselves – so flak coming our way would be a far better use of energy if it went to the Football League and their procedures.

The match referee James Linington called the game off at 6.20pm last night after he consulted with the Football League and there was the option of delaying the kick off until 8.45pm to allow further work to be done to the areas of the pitch that he identified as troublesome, but he didn’t believe the ground staff would complete the necessary work in time, following a further pitch inspection when the Tranmere team arrived by coach.

Apparently Crawley offered to play the game tonight, but obviously with Tranmere having already travelled and not arranged for overnight stay, they refused that offer, so we will be waiting on a new date again.

Crawley will however also be liaising with Tranmere, as they are Carlisle, to offer the travelling fans compensation and they offer their full apologies to all concerned.
