Crawley have made a second signing in as many days, and a signing that involved a fee too, by securing Gavin Tomlin from Port Vale.

Tomlin becomes the sixth signing this summer and with his signing, like Sonny Bradley a day earlier, involving a transfer fee this seems to dispel the myth that the club have ‘no money’, the players released was merely a cost cutting measure with the wages being paid seemingly the factor.

Anyway, back to Tomlin his signing in one that delighted John Gregory with him having to fight of competition for his signing.

Gregory told the official website: ‘I’m delighted to get this one over the line. I have always admired Gavin.

‘He is a striker first and foremost with a good goalscoring record during his career, but he can also play in midfield or out wide.

‘He’s two-footed and has got a terrific attitude. Everyone who I spoke to about him was very complementary about him as a professional and a person.

‘He’s going to play a big part for us next season. A lot of clubs were keen on him but he’s coming to us and I am very happy about that.’

Jimmy Smith, Brian Jensen, Lanre Oyebanjo, Ryan Dickson and Bradley has all been secured prior to the experienced 30-year-old forward.
