Manager Mark Yates has said he was disappointed with the goals we conceded in the Capital One Cup opener against Peterborough in the midweek fixture.

Audio – Peterborough Loss Reactions
Stats: Peterborough United v Crawley

Speaking to the Crawley News following the two nil loss, Yates admitted it had been a deeply ‘frustrating night’ for him with how the game played out – being behind inside of two minutes of the kick off.

‘It was a frustrating night because we had kick off and then we gave the ball away and conceded within two minutes, a really poor goal on our part. Their movement was really good, we knew that. It was a step up from Saturday. But either side of the goals; five minutes after the first one and then ten minutes after the second one; that was the disappointing thing. The goals were too easy.’

Yates went on to say that he doesn’t mind players giving the ball away but it’s the reaction to it he wants to see, and we weren’t reacting properly throughout the whole game to mistakes and he points out for their second on the evening in the build up we were making ‘half hearted’ challenges and we certainly could’ve done more to have kept the game one nil and try and get ourselves back into it.

‘We have to be men; we have to stay in the game because we will get chances. We were too open once they had scored; it was like ‘oh well, game over` and let`s feel sorry for ourselves but that isn`t good enough.’

Not really mixing his words there was he.

One thing the game seems to have sparked is maybe a u-turn on Izale McLeod sitting in the stands all year, as although greater quotes from his Wimbledon press conference are yet to be covered, it is being reported that Yates confirmed that last season’s top scorer had returned to training today and could be in contention for the weekend.
